Saoirse na Farraige - Freedom of the Sea is the biggest passenger ferry sailing to Inishmore (Inis Mór) and the passenger only ferry in Ireland.
Aran Island Ferries operate the biggest ferries to the islands with a passenger capacity of up to 400 seats. Ferries are custom-built for the journey with bar service and refreshments served on board.


Inis Mór is a short ferry ride from
- Rossaveel, Connemara, Galway (40-minutes) and
- Galway City (90-minutes).



There are up to five sailings per day to Inis Mór (Inishmore).
- Up to 4 per day from Rossaveel Port in Connemara (Co. Galway). 2 per day all year round.
- 1 per day from Galway City Harbour (Galway Docks)


Being the biggest Aran Island with beautiful forts such as Dún Aonghasa (Dún Aengus) dating back to 1100 B.C and Dún Dúcathair (Black Fort), a naturally formed rectangular pool the Wormhole (Póll na bPéist), and its preservation of traditional Irish culture with islanders speaking their native language and practicing traditional crafts.


The fastest ferry to Inis Mór departs Rossaveel, Connemara, Galway year-round and will get you to the island in 40-minutes.

Yes, there are 3 restaurants/pubs on the island, another pub selling drinks and toasties only and a café selling homemade produce and drinks. There's also a truck selling seafood produce and drinks. The island is known for its freshly caught seafood but offer a wide variety of options.


Yes, there's a shop called 'SPAR' on the island which is about a 10-minute walk from the ferry pier. Here you can get a tea/coffee, pick up a sandwich or purchase useful items like sunglasses, suncream and anything else you might need to enjoy your time on the island.


There are plenty of ways to explore the island.
- On foot,
- by hiring a bike or
- hopping on a minibus tour (The hop-on-hop-off Big Island tour) or
- taking a pony and trap.

Most bars, restaurants and activity providers accept card payments on the island, however, you could bring some cash just in case. There is an ATM on the island located in the local supermarket (grocery store) which is a short distance from where you disembark the ferry on Inis Mór if you forget to bring some.
