Galway City to the Cliffs of Moher via Inis Mór – the Most Exciting Sail and Sightsee Day Trip in the West!

Formed over 300 million years ago, the steep and ragged edge of Ireland's wild Atlantic Coast has attracted crowds for centuries, and it’s easy to see why. The views are panoramic, the cliff height dramatic and the local wildlife abundant and diverse. Visitors flock to the cliffs to soak up the view and photograph daringly from the edge, hoping to capture the sheer scale of the precipice. Standing atop such a famous place with the wind whipping all around and the wild white waves crashing beneath is an awe inspiring experience. So very Irish!

Coach tours can shuttle guests from Galway city centre to visit the Cliffs of Moher. The distance is about 100km, approximately 2.5 hours on the bus. Each way! If you are visiting Ireland and have just one day in your schedule, that’s a lot of time spent on a crowded coach. What if we told you is there a better way to enjoy the iconic Cliffs of Moher AND Inis Mór on one big adventure?

Aran Islands Ferry Company is the only ferry company to offer an exciting new route covering both of Ireland’s most beloved west coast locations sailing directly from Galway City in one day!

The Tour Schedule

Your tour, awarded ‘Best Boat Tour in 2024’, begins at 9:30 am at the Galway City Docks. Avail of safe, secure parking and board one of our flagship ferries for a smooth 90-minute sail to Kilronan Pier on the largest Aran Islands, Inis Mór. There are many activities, walks, hikes and sights to see during 4.5-hours on the island. Pay a visit to Dún Aengus, the impressive Bronze Age fort perched 330 ft atop another stunning set of cliffs. Or try a whistle-stop bus tour, guided by a local islander only happy to impart their knowledge. Take a scenic stroll to the seal colony or enjoy time on an unspoiled sandy beach. Relax in one of the islands authentic Irish bars, soak up the atmosphere or practice your cúpla focal with Irish language native speakers right in their community! At 3:30pm, the ferry departs Kilronan and heads straight for the famous cliffs.

And what a difference a new angle can make! From sea level the cliffs really impress. The sheer rock face is home to Ireland’s largest sea bird colony so expect lots of avian action as we cruise past, watching white capped waves crash against the base.

Sitting 50 metres out to sea, An Branán Mór, the aptly named ‘Big Prince’ sea stack casts a lonely figure on the watery landscape. Snap a photograph of the stack from the right angle and it looks just like a giant chess piece! Voyage past the series of caves featured in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and catch a glimpse of O’Brien’s Tower ensconced in the cliff face. Look out for the various sea life that call these waters home, seals, dolphins, basking shark and more.
