Halloween on Inis Mór

Oíche Shamhna and Halloween Traditions event returns on Inis Mór, the largest of the three Aran Islands, where the tradition of the pagan festival has always been very strong.

On Saturday, October 28th, a Halloween market, centred on local foods, arts and crafts, will be held on Inis Mór at the local hall or Halla Ronain in Kilronan Village and will run from noon until 2pm. This is followed by a Turnip / Pumpkin Carving competition where guests can bring their carving to be on display and judged after the market. An over-eighteen disco will take place from 12am - 2am in Halla Ronain.

On Sunday, Oct. 29th, a 'Disco na Samhna do Ghasúir' or Kids Halloween Disco will be held at the local hall from 3-4pm. This will be followed by a “taisce agus tríocha na Samhna” or a Halloween Treasure Hunt which will also start from the Halla and run from 4pm around the village. The charge for this is €10 per family. The pubs on Inis Mór will have live music and a Halloween fancy dress offering prizes for the best-dressed.
