Halloween on Inis Mór
Oíche Shamhna and Halloween Traditions event returns on Inis Mór, the largest of the three Aran Islands, where the tradition of the pagan festival has always been very strong.
Inis Mór generally celebrates Halloween with a market, centred on local foods, arts and crafts, at the local hall or Halla Ronain in Kilronan Village. This is usually followed by a Turnip / Pumpkin Carving competition where guests can bring their carving to be on display and judged after the market.
The weekend also fearures a 'Disco na Samhna do Ghasúir' or Kids Halloween Disco typically held at the local hall. This will be followed by a “taisce agus tríocha na Samhna” or a Halloween Treasure Hunt which will also start from the Halla. The pubs on Inis Mór will have live music and a Halloween fancy dress offering prizes for the best-dressed.
