Is parking available for the Aran Islands Ferry at Galway City Docks - Ferry Departure Point?

Yes, parking is available at the Harbour Company indoor public car park. This car park is fully automated “pay on foot”. There are 100 spaces in total and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

There is a day rate of €15.00 for 24 hour parking that you can pay on site at the ticket machine prior to departing the carpark.

Where does the Aran Islands Ferry depart from in Galway City?

If you're getting the ferry from Galway City to Inis Mór (Inishmore), the Aran Islands ferry departs from Galway City Docks beside the Port of Galway Office (H91 PD37), which is a short walk from Galway City centre.

If heading towards Galway city take the first entrance on the left just before the Galway Harbour Hotel. (H91 E9PR). If leaving Galway city, take the second entrance on the right just passed the Galway Harbour Hotel. Proceed straight where you will be prompted by signs to turn left into a car park. All passengers must travel through this car park to board the ferry.

Please note you can also take our bus transfer from Victoria Place in Galway City to the ferry terminal in Rossaveel, Connemara.

Where else can I find parking close to Galway City Docks?

There are a number of car parks in Galway city that are in walking distance of Galway City Docks (Galway Harbour). Please do your research in advance and allow enough time to walk from your chosen car park to one of our Galway city offices to collect/validate your tickets before heading to the Harbour to board the ferry..

What time does the Aran Islands Ferry from Galway City depart?

There is one sailing per day that departs Galway City Docks at 9.30am. The ferry will arrive at Inis Mór at 11am. The ferry will arrive back in Galway City for 6pm.

If are taking our bus transfer from Galway City to Rossaveel Ferry Terminal, the bus departs one hour before the scheduled ferry departure time. We advise you check the Aran Island Ferry timetable for all bus and ferry departure times.

What time should I present for boarding?

This information applies to our Galway City Docks to Inishmore and Cliffs of Moher Sailings (for Sailings from Rossaveel See Our Rossaveel Departures Page) 

All passengers should present for boarding at least 30-minutes prior to departure time.

Passengers who are driving should allow themselves time to park and present their ticket to the crew for scanning. Tickets may also be purchased in one of our offices.

Please allow extra time during peak season as it is extremely busy.

How long does it take to get to Inishmore by ferry?

Galway City Docks to Inis Mór is a 90-minute Sailing across Galway Bay.

Can I take my own bicycles on the Aran Islands Ferry?

Yes, but we have limited space for bicycles on the ferry, so we recommend that you pre-book the space with us when booking your ferry ticket. The cost for a return transfer of a standard manual bike is €20.00 (€15.00 one way).We do not carry any Electric/Motorised Bikes, or bikes that weight in excess of 15kg. Please do not show up at the Docks with a bike if it hasn’t been pre-booked. Passengers carrying bikes must sign a waiver prior to booking. Please note that bicycles can also be rented on Inis Mór with Aran Bike Hire at a cost of €20pp per day.

Is there a luggage allowance?

Yes. Each person is allowed one large bag or suitcase (maximum 20kg) and one small bag or case (maximum 10kg).

Can I take my car to the Aran Islands on the Aran Islands Ferry?

There are no car ferries operating to the islands. Ferries to the Aran Islands are for foot passengers only. There is another company operating a cargo boat from Galway Docks three days a week. Contact 'Lasta Mara Teo' on 091 562900 for more information.

How much time do I have on Inis Mór?

For passengers sailing with us on our ferry from Galway City Docks, passengers have 4.5-hours to spend on Inis Mór. We will then board the ferry at 3.30pm and sail to the Cliffs of Moher for a cruise before sailing back to Galway City.

For those travelling from Rossaveel ferry terminal, the time depends on which sailing you choose. Our most popular sailing allows visitors to spend for 5.5-hours on the island on a day trip.

Can I bring a luggage trolleys or bike trailers on board the ferries?

No, we do not carry (transfer) any luggage trolleys or bike trailers on our ferries.

Can I take my bike on the ferry?

Do you Accept Free Travel Passes on Galway City Docks departure?

No. We do not accept Free Travel Passes on our departure from Galway City Docks.

Free Travel Pass holders may continue to use their pass on our Rossaveel route, Please, Book you ferry here.

Are dogs allowed on the Aran Islands Ferry?

We do allow dogs on the ferry but they must be on a lead and remain on the outside deck at all times.

In addition, the Control of Dogs Regulations 1998 places additional controls on the following specific breeds of dogs on board.

Dogs on the following list, or strains and crosses thereof, must be on a lead of no more than two metres long and be securely muzzled.

Do I need to print my ferry ticket?

It is not necessary to print your tickets. Your booking confirmation contains your ticket. Just click on view ticket on your mobile device and present the QR code to our crew.

Provided you have a device with this QR code that you can present to our crew on boarding at Galway Docks and Inis Mór it is not necessary to print your ticket.

What should I bring with me to the Aran Islands?

We recommend bringing a camera, comfortable shoes, a good rain jacket, sunscreen and a little cash. Headphones and/or earbuds will be required to listen to the audio guide on board.

Do the Ferries still depart from Rossaveel?

Yes, our ferries depart from Rossaveel Ferry Terminal (H91 W9K1) and sail to all three islands year-round.

What happens if the ferry is cancelled due to bad weather conditions?

In such cases, you can choose to travel on another sailing or we'll happily issue a full refund. More information is presented in our refund policy.

 

Can I listen to Audio Guide on the Ferry?

Audio Guide from Galway city to Inis Mór may be downloaded here. It's also available on Soundcloud Spotify. We encourage you to download this guide in advance as coverage at departure points and on board may be insufficient to listen to audio guides in real-time. Audio from Galway City to Inis Mór will not be played aloud on board.

Can I choose what vessel I travel on?

Please note that any one of our five vessels will carry you on your journey. No ferry is guaranteed to travel on a specific route at any time and for that reason, you cannot request to travel on a particular ferry.

What is the Register of Passengers form and why do I need to complete it?

The register of Passenger form is a form that all passengers must complete with their details in order to comply with an EU Directive.

The Directive became madatory in December 2023. All infomation provided is sent to the Department of Transport prior to the departure of each vessel.

The processing of personal data shall be carried out in accordance with the Data Protection Regulation and with the Data Protection Act.

What time should I present for boarding at Rossaveel Ferry Terminal?

If you are driving to the port we recommend that you present for boarding 30 minutes prior to the ferry departure. Please allow enough time to park your car.

If you are taking the shuttle bus you should present for boarding at least 90 minutes prior to the ferry departure time (30 minutes before the bus departs). You will board a shuttle bus from Galway City centre before transferring to the Ferry at Rossaveel Ferry Terminal.

Are bicycles allowed on the bus?

Unfortunately, the buses are unable to carry bicycles.

Are dogs allowed on the Aran Islands shuttle bus?

The shuttle buses do not carry dogs unless they are guide dogs. We would kindly ask passengers travelling with guide dogs to contact us in advance should you wish to avail of the shuttle bus service, so we can ensure that you are comfortably accommodated.
